Is Pinellas County dog friendly

Hey Jack.... You asked if Pinellas County is dog friendly....

You could say Yes, if you find it friendly to keep your dog on a 6 foot leash. In the map below, the A indicates where we live in Dunedin (the second map is a more detailed version).

Pinellas Trail: Just to the west of the "A" you see "Bayshore Blvd" a yellow line. The Pinellas trail runs along that road, so it's 7 short blocks from our house and is indeed a lovely l . o . n . g. stretch of blacktop. Great for biking, rollerblading & walking. And yes, the leash law is in effect.

Honeymoon Island (reached heading west over the Curlew Road Causeway just north of our house) has a dog beach, but also has the ridiculous leash law. How a dog can possibly enjoy bouncing and playing in the water on a leash is impossible. Actual fact: MANY people let their dogs OFF leash out there and do just fine. You hear of the occasional clampdown where people are getting tickets when a ranger sees, so I almost never go there. Altho, this year, I plan to get a Honeymoon Island pass and start taking Daisy there on a several times a week basis. I can keep her on a 25 foot rope and let her swim, and tighten up on the rope when a ranger drives by in his cart... or even let her loose once I learn the lay of the land, i.e. how to keep my eye out.

Hammock: Because of those unfriendly difficulties, we go every day to the Hammock Park (all that green marked just south of Michigan Blvd on the detailed map below). It also "technically" has a leash law, but we let Daisy loose and have no problem.

A mile away is a dog park with fences and no leashes needed. A small dog and big dog park are divided, so small dogs aren't intimidated I guess.

Also in Pinellas, at the southern tip in St.Pete's Fort Desoto Park is a dog beach with no leash!!! LOVELY. But too far away for my interest....
